St. Marks is probably the best place in Northwest Florida for general bird watching. Founded in 1931 and one of the nation’s oldest refuges, St. Marks encompasses more than 69,000 acres of land and another 31,500 acres of adjacent Apalachee Bay. The Stoney Bayou Trail is mostly a sand path, not nearly as arduous as its name sounds. And you won’t find many stones here anymore.
