In notoriously flat Florida, the 6,294-acre Apalachicola Bluffs and Ravines Preserve contains one of Florida’s rare steephead ravines. Steephead ravines are steep, straightsided narrow valleys that usually have a stream of water flowing at the bottom. In the Panhandle, they were formed as Florida gradually emerged from the sea, created by the Apalachicola River, which created a line of high bluffs.
