Black Rock Mountain State Park is named for the sheer cliffs of dark-colored rock found occasionally in Georgia’s Blue Ridge Mountains. The park is located on both sides of the Eastern Continental Divide at an altitude of 3640 feet, and Black Rock Mountain is the highest state park in Georgia. Hikers will enjoy dramatic views of the Southern Appalachians, and several hiking trails lead visitors past cascading streams and waterfalls in the park. The Tennessee Rock Trail is an ideal day hike for both hikers and their dogs, and it contains some of the most spectacular vistas in the park. The trail is challenging enough to provide some exercise, but not too steep to exhaust both you and your pooch. Drinking water is available from the public source at the visitor center, where you can also pick up a park map.
