This section of the Bartram Trail is underused relative to its outstanding features. Head north from Hale Ridge Road, shortly entering North Carolina and the Nantahala National Forest. Before ascending Scaly Mountain, travel the seldom-visited Overflow Creek Backcountry Area near Osage Mountain. Here, the rocky crest of this peak offers scenic, far-reaching views. Keep north, descending to Tessentee Creek and a campsite with water, one of the few in this section. Climb again to the high country and the Fishhawk Mountains, where the rocky summits offer exhilarating vistas from stone slabs covering vast sections of mountainside. Descend from the Fishhawks to reach the Buckeye Creek trailhead.
