The southern terminus of the Bartram Trail is also its lowest elevation. Leave the trailhead and travel southwesterly along a beautiful stretch of the federally designated Wild and Scenic Chattooga River. The walking is mostly easy as you head downstream to the lowest elevation of the BT before turning away from the river, passing Dicks Creek Falls. The BT turns west along a ridgeline, leaving the Chattooga watershed behind. Ascend on the ridgeline, reaching a high point near Rainy Mountain before dropping to the headwaters of Warwoman Creek at Warwoman Dell Picnic Area. You will no doubt notice the first of several interesting features of the Bartram Trail’s Georgia section—large engraved stone markers of the Bartram Trail, usually located at gaps and roadside trail crossings.
