A fine day hike on a trail on the Coconino National Forest that follows Oak Creek for part of the way. The first section of the Huckaby Trail goes west, loosely paralleling the Schnebly Hill Road. After the Margs Draw Trail junction, the trail turns right and follows an old road down into Bear Wallow Canyon (the canyon north of the trailhead). Follow the old road across this normally dry canyon and out the north side. Here a newer foot trail leaves the old road and contours northeast above the canyon. Soon a switchback takes you to the north as the trail begins to work its way toward Oak Creek. This is a delightful traverse through pinyon-juniper forest, though it would be hot on a summer afternoon.
