This recreation area was developed well in the 1930s and is well taken care of today. Clear, 72-degree Juniper Springs is the centerpiece of this Ocala National Forest landmark. The springs well up at 13 million gallons per day into continental America’s only subtropical national forest. The campground is aesthetically integrated into the landscape and has a separate loop for tent campers only. The best loop is the Fern Hammock Tent Camp Area. The paved road ends, and the campsites begin beneath a tall canopy of palm trees and southern hardwoods such as hickory. Three campsites on the main road are immediately followed by a spur loop with seven sites near a low-lying area.
