This 6,423-acre park is named for Barron Collier, a developer who had planned to turn the land into a park, and for the Seminole Indians who made the area their home. The park is located where the Everglades and Big A spider web in early morning sun. Cypress Swamp overlap. This accounts for unusually diverse wildlife habitats: tropical hammocks and pine flatwoods, salt and freshwater marshes, and mangrove and cypress swamps. Rare Florida royal palms occur naturally here. One particular tropical hammock contains trees more characteristic of Mexico’s Yucatan and the West Indies. A 6.5-mile segment of the Florida Trail is located outside the main park area. Collier-Seminole State Park. Special Attractions: A walk through true Everglades environment where majestic royal palms line parts of the trail. Also a 13.6-mile long canoe trail with a primitive campsite.
