Includes: Snake Bight Trail, Rowdy Bend Trail, Christian Point Trail, Bear Lake Trail, Eco Pond Trail, Guy Bradley Trail, Bayshore Loop, Coastal Prairie Trail. Once upon a time, this formerly quiet fishing village could only be reached by boats coming across Florida Bay and later through the Homestead-Flamingo Canal. Today, you can drive right up to Flamingo’s visitor center, restaurant, lodge, and marina at the Everglades’ southernmost tip. Will you see flamingoes at Flamingo? Probably not, although they are being sighted again in Everglades backcountry for the first time in years. However, on the Flamingo trails you may see unusually bold bobcats who, instead of running away, are usually little bothered by human presence. It’s possible to watch a bobcat fairly closely and for a surprising length of time, even in daylight. Everglades bobcats are just as likely to be found in water as on land, as they search for marsh rabbits, rodents, and birds to feed on.
