This 490-acre site is located on the north shore of Lake Jesup. Preservation of this floodplain habit is part of the effort to aid in the restoration of Lake Jesup, among the state’s 20 largest lakes. Because much of floodplain is low, the trail may be flooded during rainy periods. Even outside of the wet season, hikers should expect to get their feet wet; consider it a pleasant surprise if you don’t. The largest part of the wilderness area consists of wet prairie once used for cattle grazing. This is good wildflower habitat that includes marsh mallow and swamp hibiscus. Scattered in the interior and at the edge of the lake are blue flag iris and soft rush, which makes this an unusually good site for macro photography. Special Attractions: The opportunity to walk through habitat normally impassable to hikers
