Includes: Ridge Trail, Loblolly Trail, Florida Trail. It seems people panned for gold everywhere, including Gold Head Branch, a small stream created by freshwater springs that flow into Little Lake Johnson. Miners actually found some color, though in limited quantities. The park itself is one of the oldest in the Florida park system, dating back to 1939. Its 2,100-acres were developed as a Civilian Conservation Corps project. The lakes here hold bass, bream, and speckled perch (fishing license required), and you can swim in Lake Johnson. Special Attractions: A walk through a deep ravine, where the air is always cooler and the vegetation markedly different from topside.
