Visit 47 kilometers of rugged coastal hiking along southern Vancouver Island’s west coast. Depending on the time and length of your hike, you may see pristine waterfalls, nesting bald eagles, breaching orcas, pounding surf, and frolicking seals. Whenever you hike, you are guaranteed a rainbow of marine life and scenic coastal as well as forested landscapes. The B.C. Government commissioned Juan de Fuca Trail in 1994 to commemorate the Commonwealth Games. While sections of the trail are gaining popularity (particularly China Beach to Mystic Beach, and sections near Botanical Beach), it is still possible to feel like the last person on earth in many places. Because of its proximity to Victoria and the relative brevity of its trail, Mystic Beach may look like tent city on a weekend.
