An uphill hike to Honeymoon Pass with views of Hawk Ridge and the Ball Range before you descend through the valley to the Verdant Creek backcountry campground. you’re looking for solitude, you’ll find it on this trail. It’s a steep, 730-meter climb up to Honeymoon Pass, then a quick, 200-meter descent into the valley bottom—only to ford the creek that will lead you to the lonesome Verdant Creek Campground. Strong, intrepid hikers can trek the remaining 12 kilometers to reach Redearth Pass and another 2.4 kilometers to reach Egypt Lake in Banff National Park. However, the Verdant Creek Trail is seldom traveled, and excellent route-finding skills are a necessity. Douglas fir is rarely trodden and is overgrown by ferns, shrubs, and alpine wildflowers. Depending on the time of year, you’ll spot mauve fleabane, wild rose, wild strawberry, pink Indian paintbrush, alpine buttercup, dwarf dogwood, yellow columbine, arnica, valerian, western anemone, and white mountain heather.
