A moderate climb to the hanging valley of Stanley Glacier. This trail differs in two ways from many of the other short hikes open in June in Kootenay National Park. Unlike other low-elevation trails, Stanley Glacier provides breathtaking views of Stanley Peak (3,154 m) to the south, its glacier, Storm Mountain (3,161 m) to the northeast, Mount Whymper (2,845 m), and Boom Mountain (2,760 m) to the northwest. Most important, it is heavily hiked. If you’re looking for the sanctity afforded by many of the other trails in Kootenay, begin your hike at 9:00 A.M., if not before. By noon this trail is packed with eager visitors—and for good reason. currently offers topo maps from the entire United States. We plan to expand our topomap database in the future, however this map is not available at this time. Thank you for your understanding.
