This all-day hike offers fantastic views of the President Range, the Emerald Glacier, Mount Burgess, and Wapta Mountain. The first time we hiked this trail, in mid-July, deep snow and avalanches on the Burgess Highline forced us to turn around early. You’re better off waiting until August or September to hike this trail; and it’s well worth the wait. You’ll have to work for your views though—especially if you start with the Burgess Pass Trail, on which you’ll gain 840 meters in just 5.5 kilometers. It doesn’t sound so bad—until you realize that the raspy noise you keep hearing is your own labored breathing.

Trails.com currently offers topo maps from the entire United States. We plan to expand our topomap database in the future, however this map is not available at this time. Thank you for your understanding.
