The Manicouagan region stretches for 300km along the north shore of the St. Lawrence River and northward into the Laurentian plateau to include the Groulx mountains and the Manicouagan reservoir. The Manicouagan region sits along 300km of the St. Lawrence River and stretches across the Laurentian plateau, north of the Groulx mountains and the Manicouagan reservoir. Covered by thick boreal forest, Manicouagan also has an extensive river system that powers the eight generating stations of the Manic-Outardes hydroelectric complex. Route 138 runs along the coast from the mouth of the Rivière Saguenay to Baie-Trinité, offering spectacular panoramas of soaring cliffs and unspoiled beaches. Parc Nature de Pointe-aux-Outardes is a haven for nature and outdoor enthusiasts, who come to observe a multitude of bird species and to find adventure in the Groulx mountains. The Parc Marin du Saguenay, where you can see all manner of different whale species, is indisputably one of the region’s main attractions. This trail guide includes hiking trails at Parc Nature de Pointe-aux-Outardes (Lievre Trail), Manicougan Trails, and Monts Groulx.
