The shores of the vast Gaspé peninsula are washed by the waters of the Baie des Chaleurs, the St. Lawrence River and its gulf. This is a cherished vacation spot for many Quebecers. The enormous Gaspé Peninsula is washed by the waters of the Baie des Chaleurs, the St. Lawrence River and the Gulf of St. Lawrence. This region at the eastern extremity of Québec has gained almost mythical status. People dream of circling the whole of Gaspésie: discovering its magnificent coastal landscape, where the Chic-Chocs Mountains plunge abruptly into the cold waters of the St. Lawrence River; going all the way to famous Rocher Percé; heading out to sea toward Île Bonaventure; visiting the extraordinary Forillon National Park, and finally slowly making their way back through Baie des Chaleurs and the valley of the Rivière Matapédia in the hinterland. This beautiful corner of Québec, with its strikingly picturesque scenery, is inhabited by friendly fascinating people who still rely mainly on the sea for their livelihood.
