Development of the lower Furry Creek valley and its temporary closure to the public a decade ago effectively cut off the time-honoured approach to the upper Furry and Phyllis Creek areas by the old access road. Fortunately an alternative was soon created through the forest above Porteau and a far more attractive route it has proved to be. To reach this approach, drive to Porteau Cove Provincial Park, almost 25 km (15.5 mi) north of Horseshoe Bay on Highway 99 (Sea to Sky Highway). On foot cross the highway and walk back about 100 m on the east side to the end of the concrete retaining wall. Here a taped route goes off into the bush, crosses a power line right-of-way, then ascends rapidly to join an old B.C. Rail access road just north of a creek.
