Contrasting with the spectacular mountain scenery in much of the rest of Golden Ears Provincial Park are the surroundings of this unobtrusive body of water with its tall conifers, its only contact with the high country to the north being its parking lot where hikers and climbers begin their trips to Alouette Mountain or Blanshard Peak. Even if you have no such ambitions, you do have a choice of two trails, one a short round of the lake of 2 km (1.2 mi), the other a longer circuit mostly within the encircling forest. This trail also owes its existence to logging days, when it was used as a route to skyline logs down to the lake from the railroad above. On this stretch you speedily lose the height gained so gently earlier, descending the steep Incline Trail and ignoring Eric Dunning Trail to your left.
