Even urban troglodytes who emerge only infrequently from the built-up sections of Vancouver must be aware of this landmark on the north shore of Burrard Inlet, if for no other reason than that its lighthouse sends friendly beams of light over the waters during the hours of darkness and its foghorn bellows its warning during periods of gloomy overcast. But Point Atkinson is well worth a visit for its own sake, located as it is at the southern tip of Lighthouse Park, which features old-growth coastal forest, rocky headlands and narrow bays, and is the haunt of varied wildlife, from the humble organisms of the intertidal zone to majestic birds.
