As the Lions are to Vancouver, so Cheam Peak is to the eastern Fraser Valley; it is dominant over Highway 1 between Chilliwack and Hope. Until recently the route to this eminence was the long slog from the valley floor at Popkum to gain the ridge some 2 hours southwest of the peak. That demanding hike was fully 30 km (19 mi), climbed 2080 m (6825 ft) in elevation and occupied all of a very long day. In the early years of the last century it was an annual pilgrimage made by whole families: one hundred people on the top was nothing unusual! Think on that as you drive to within 2 hours of the top of the world. Now just a short hike allows you to have the Fraser Valley spread out at your feet—with views to Vancouver if the smog is not too thick. currently offers topo maps from the entire United States. We plan to expand our topomap database in the future, however this map is not available at this time. Thank you for your understanding.
