Garibaldi Provincial Park’s Panorama Ridge is aptly named. On every side your views are superb: the opaque blue-green water of the main lake at your feet contrasts with the gleaming white of Mount Garibaldi’s glaciers and snowfields and those in turn with the dark shadow of Table Mountain. You also have the whole variety of volcanic features: Castle Towers and the quaintly named Phyllis’s Engine amongst the remnants on the one hand, and the several cones that form Mount Price and Clinker Peak on the other. Behind to the northwest looms the dramatic presence of Black Tusk itself. On the descent from the ridge you look northward along Empetrum Ridge, which is accessible in about 2 hours from the Panorama Ridge junction but which has no official trail. You also look across Cinder Cone and down the Helm Creek Valley. This trip may be done in one long day from the Rubble Creek parking lot but is much more enjoyable if undertaken from the campgrounds at Taylor Meadows or Garibaldi Lake. From either one you may enjoy it as a gentle hike, giving yourself time to take in the magnificent scenery and appreciate the variety and colour of the flowers. currently offers topo maps from the entire United States.
