Viewed from the shores of frigid Rabbit Lake, the Suicide Peaks live up to their name. They look so terrifying that—according to the early railroad workers who spied them from the tent city of Anchorage—you’d have to be suicidal to try to climb them. The climb is not easy, but anyone comfortable scrambling up scree slopes shouldn’t be put off by the morose name. Both North and South Suicide can be climbed from Windy Gap, the high saddle splitting the peaks. North Suicide, the higher of the two peaks, offers more solid footing and is the more compelling climb. South Suicide is more often climbed from Falls Creek via its south ridge. The route up North Suicide from Rabbit Lake is described in this eTrail.
