This hike follows a narrow trail from Stuckagain Heights to a rounded high point unofficially dubbed “The Dome.” Gentle slopes dotted with blueberry bushes and fireweed, close views of Anchorage, and easy access to North Fork Campbell Creek Valley are among the high points of this hike. Although The Dome lies just beyond the state park boundaries, you’ll rarely have any company other than a few fellow hikers, runners, and the occasional horseback rider. Beyond The Dome, in the North Fork Campbell Creek Valley, sits pristine Long Lake, ringed by crumbling peaks. For being so near Anchorage, this lake rarely draws crowds. Getting there involves an ambitious day trip; it’s a good idea to camp near the lake and spend an extra day either exploring the nearby mountains or making a loop around the Williwaw Lakes.
