This well-maintained trail climbs above Eklutna Lake to East Twin Pass, where Dall sheep roam by the dozens. A dirt road carved out of the hillside by the U.S. Army and eventually abandoned, the Twin Peaks Trail was used only by sheep hunters for many years. Now it’s an accessible and popular destination for hikers. Walk to the road’s end at tree line, continue on a loop past East Twin Pass to the base of the Twin Peaks, or climb to a high lookout point above the lake. With a gentle grade leading through trees and tundra, and dramatic vistas of Eklutna Lake and close-up views of imposing East Twin Peak, the Twin Peaks Trail has something for everyone.
