Wolverine Peak, the broad triangular mountain on the skyline east of Anchorage, makes an excellent one-day trip, offering views of Anchorage, Cook Inlet, and the Alaska Range and glimpses of the lake-dotted wild country behind the peak. An old homesteader’s road, now part of the Chugach State Park trail system, makes a fine access to tree line for hiking and ski touring. Watch for ground squirrels, spruce grouse, moose, and, on rare occasions, a wolverine. Pick blueberries and cranberries in season.
