This is one of a few trails in the White Mountains Recreation Area with a dry route for hiking in the summer. The most popular route is the ?rst 3.5 miles from Wickersham Dome Trailhead to the Wickersham Dome. The Summit Trail is one of the few trails in the White Mountains National Recreation Area dry enough for summer hiking; the area is better known and more popular for its extensive system of winter trails and cabins. The trail follows a fairly dry ridgeline to Wickersham Dome and beyond, eventually descending to Beaver Creek, a hike of 20 miles one way. The shorter trip to the north side of Wickersham Dome leads to distant views of the White Mountains, the rugged peaks in the heart of the recreation area. In season, there is good berry picking along the trail. The trail is closed to motorized use.
