A trail for all abilities, with a variety of options: a short or longer day hike option, or a longer overnight traverse climbing into the alpine country. The Winner Creek Trail is a bit of a suburban wildland hike, but there are plenty of rewards: a beautiful trail, temperate rain forest, and the narrow gorges of Winner and Glacier Creeks. Across Glacier Creek, 2.5 miles into the hike, the trail connects with the Girdwood Iditarod Trail, a “natural tread” trail that parallels Crow Creek Road and leads about 3 miles to the Girdwood School. From the school, you can walk or bike 2.5 miles of paved bike path back to the trailhead at the Alyeska Hotel. This entire 8-mile loop, both forest trail and paved path, is open to bicycles.
