This quiet out-and-back hike is one of my favorites in the Palm Springs area. It is easy to follow, provides a moderate cardio workout, and is marked by thick groves of manzanita and gorgeous views of both mountains and desert. It starts out traversing privately owned pastures, switchbacks up a mountain for 1.5 miles, and crosses the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT), which is closed to through-traffic at this point due to damages caused by wildfires in 2013. The hike can be done year-round, though the best times are spring and early fall.
