One of the must-do rides in Colorado, this loop takes you from the flatland near Grand Junction into the spectacular Colorado National Monument, a world of red cliffs and pinnacles of sandstone jutting into the sky, on an amazingly well-engineered and fun road. Old-time bike nuts may recall the Coors Classic, a big-stage race that took place in Colorado decades ago. One of the iconic stages of that race was known as the “Tour of the Moon,” because it sent the racers through the otherworldly Colorado National Monument. It doesn’t really look like the moon, but it is exotic country, totally unlike the mountains and plains that compose the rest of the state.
