A very tough tour of Flagstaff Road—all of Flagstaff Road, not just the popular lower section—leads to Gross Reservoir. Getting home involves more strenuous climbing. The ascent of Flagstaff Mountain is a traditional favorite for Boulder bikers. It’s a nice, strenuous little climb. (See Best Bike Rides Denver and Boulder [FalconGuides] for more on that ride.) But this extend-o-rama Flagstaff climb is much more difficult. This route climbs Flagstaff , then continues to climb. In fact, as all the local wheelers know very well, the “real” climbing doesn’t begin until the Flagstaff summit is in the rearview mirror. Beyond Flagstaff Mountain is an even bigger mountain, and the road chugs right on up the thing.
