The Seven Hollows Trail is one of many hiking gems in Petit Jean State Park. The loop trail travels in and out of a series of hollows and offers several highlights along the way. A natural bridge, a grotto, and large boulders that resemble turtle shells are the geologic features that accompany the beautiful landscape. The old-growth hardwood forest is a nature lover’s dream and any rock hound will be thrilled to explore the area. The idea of Petit Jean Mountain becoming a recreation destination first started in 1907. A group of businessmen who were inspecting a logging mill wound up spending most of their time riding horseback and log trains through the valleys and over the mountain. They even explored the Seven Hollows region, all of which was owned by their company. The difficulties of logging the region were discussed at length.
