Monrovia Canyon Park is one of the true gems of the San Gabriel Mountains. This route heads to the park’s year-round thirty-foot waterfall, tucked in the back of Monrovia Canyon amid an impressive canopy of twisted, old-growth oak trees. This is a wonderfully peaceful and serene getaway from city life and is a perfect hiking spot for families. Begin your climb in the oak-dappled sunlight and keep right at 0.2 mile as the looming form of the Sawpit Canyon Dam emerges to the northeast. This monstrous 147-foot-tall structure was built in 1927 but shortly after it was completed, engineers discovered the dam's foundation was too weak to hold the water it was planned to contain.
