Tucked away in a secluded valley just east of the Napa Valley, Lake Hennessey is a scenic reservoir that provides water for the city of Napa. The lands on the east side of the lake have been incorporated into Moore Creek Park and offer hiking next to creeks, over high, open ridges with panoramic views, and along Lake Hennessey’s beautiful shoreline. Lake Hennessey was built in 1948 to provide water for the city of Napa. Located at the confluence of Conn, Chiles, and Moore Creeks, the lake is impounded by the Conn Dam. Conn Creek continues below the dam before joining the Napa River near Yountville. The lake is set in a scenic basin fed by several canyons, separate from the rest of Napa Valley by a low ridge. It is surrounded by low peaks where vineyards have been established amid the chaparral-lined slopes. Although a significant amount of the land around the lake is publicly owned, there has been little development of the property for recreation.
