The hike on Skyline Wilderness Park’s Rim Rock Loop explores the highest section of the park, where there are panoramic views of the northern Bay Area. The trail climbs steadily up the side of the Marie Creek Canyon, crossing over rock outcroppings. After reaching the tallest point in the park, the trail descends back into the canyon while weaving through exposed volcanic strata. After passing Lake Marie, the hike follows Marie Creek through the beautiful inner canyon before returning to the trailhead. Even though the Skyline Wilderness Park begins right at the edge of the city of Napa, it lives up to its name. The upper reaches of the park—the parts that form the city’s eastern skyline—are indeed wild. The centerpiece of the park is Marie Creek’s long canyon, which extends more than 2 miles into the hills at the southern end of Napa Valley.
