This is an excellent hike around the headwaters of Tolay Creek in the southern Sonoma Mountains. The high hills of the park are contrasted against vast meadows and old forests. With great views of Tolay Lake’s valley, vineyards, and San Francisco Bay, this is a dramatic but lightly hiked trail. Tolay Lake Regional Park is sublime corner of southern Sonoma County’s quiet agricultural backcountry. For many years the park was a working ranch, and it still has many of the trappings of ranch life, including the presence of cattle that graze the park’s lands at times.
