This trip to the Hakai Conservation Study Area starts in Bella Bella and is located entirely within Heiltsuk traditional territory. The Central Coast is the ancient and contemporary homeland of the Heiltsuk, Kitasoo, Oweekeno and Nuxalk First Nations. For thousands of years, these peoples have derived their sustenance from the land and sea, with marine resources forming an integral part of their diet and economy. An intimate knowledge of these resources and environment is the basis of their survival and unique cultural achievements. Others have joined them more recently in their traditional territories, which are blessed with an amazing diversity of wildlife and landscapes including the beautiful Great Bear Rainforest, the world’s largest remaining intact temperate rain forest and one of the richest, most diverse ecosystems on earth. This area is a paddler’s paradise. From towering inland fiords to spectacular white sandy beaches, this largely unpopulated area will feed your soul with the sights and sounds of the unspoiled Pacific Ocean and the power of ancient cultures that live on today. currently offers topo maps from the entire United States. We plan to expand our topomap database in the future, however this map is not available at this time. Thank you for your understanding.
