Nestled among the redwoods in the Santa Cruz Mountains, 2 miles long and typically less than a couple hundred yards wide, Loch Lomond feels more like paddling on a North Coast river than a lake. Although it is arguably the most scenic of all the lakes, and serene, since no gas motors are allowed, it is now the most challenging to access. Because of mussel restrictions, only those willing to pay to store a kayak there for the entire season are allowed to paddle the loch. Launch site: Boat ramp (100 Loch Lomond Way, Felton) open seasonally 7 days a week, March 1 to Labor Day, then weekends only through October 14. Note: No food, lodging, or camping available at the lake.
