This adventure combines paddling on the big Caloosahatchee River and small, intimate Hickeys Creek, a state-designated paddling trail and tributary of the Caloosahatchee. It is possible to launch directly on Hickeys Creek at Hickeys Creek Mitigation Park, but this involves a 0.4-mile carry from the parking area to the canoe/kayak launch. Furthermore, if you do this, it eliminates the Caloosahatchee River experience and the savoring of varied waterways. A wind forecast for the Caloosahatchee River will aid your paddle. This paddle can also be executed from Franklin Lock, downstream of Hickeys Creek on the Caloosahatchee, but is a little longer to reach the mouth of Hickeys Creek. Finally, Caloosahatchee Regional Park also features an excellent hiking trail system as well as a fine, shaded walk-in tent campground.
