Often described as the headwaters of the Everglades, Shingle Creek drains the lakes and hills of southern Orange County, then flows south near Kissimmee into Lake Tohopekaliga. Though civilization has caught up to the area, paddling Shingle Creek is a unique experience and certainly one of the best paddling trails in Florida. The adventure of paddling the creek through a cypress forest becomes an instantaneous trip into a wild segment of the Sunshine State unimaginably situated in greater Orlando. Your starting point is the concessionaire situated at Shingle Creek Regional Park, off busy Vine Street/US 192. Paddling here is evolving, but efforts are under way to expand the accessible Shingle Creek mileage. For now, paddlers can head upstream a mile or so, but the downstream trip is a real treat.
