Draining Post Of?ce Bay and other swamps of the southwestern Apalachicola National Forest, Owl Creek—a tributary of the Apalachicola River—has long been an intriguing paddling destination. Most paddlers start their trips at Hickory Landing, a national-forest recreation area with a boat ramp and campground. Paddlers can also start on Black Creek, a tributary of Owl Creek, and then paddle into Owl Creek, then down to Hickory Landing and beyond to the Apalachicola River. Furthermore, creekside cypress–tupelo swamps beg exploration, as does Devon Creek, another tributary of Owl Creek downstream from Hickory Landing. Devon Creek presents a narrow, winding paddling prospect, canopied in aquatic hardwoods. As you can see, there is many a method to exploring the Owl Creek drainage.
