The headwaters of the Blackwater River originate primarily in south Alabama’s Conecuh National Forest. As a result, there is virtually no development or agricultural activity to spoil the purity of the water. There are no real springs in the area, but some of the tributaries ?owing into the Blackwater have such clarity that they look like spring runs. A state-designated paddling trail, the Blackwater River ?ows nearly 50 miles through hilly woodlands and wild protected lands, much of it in the Blackwater River State Forest. These public banks make paddle-camping trips desirable along the Blackwater River. In addition to sandbars, overnighters can enjoy the developed campground of Blackwater River State Park.
