The Tallapoosa River was a major population center of the Creek Indians before the early 19th century. Today, despite the periodic bridge crossings, the well-loved Tallapoosa River offers wooded seclusion and serene beauty. Rolling hills stretch in all directions, but dense streamside ?ora and high banks usually block the view. The current is moderate; infrequent small shoals and rocky bluffs add spice. The section of the river near the Alabama state line has one of the best no-shuttle runs in Georgia. Because the river forms a nearly 2-mile horseshoe bend around a ridge, paddlers need bring only one car for this stretch.
