This circular route weaves through delightful mangrove tunnels up Halfway Creek to Turner Lake and descends by the wider and more open Turner River to the bay east of Chokoloskee. There is a choice between two routes for the return to Everglades City, with one offering a visit to the historic Smallwood Store. From the park launching ramp, turn left along the shore past the dock until you reach the Route 29 bridge at the start of the causeway (.5mile). Pass under the bridge. There are three visible channels: to right and left and straight ahead. Go straight ahead. This will lead you into Halfway Creek in half a mile. Halfway Creek passes buildings, on your left. Eventually a sign on your right welcomes you to Everglades National Park. From here on you will be on a delightful twisting stream flanked and often tunneled over by mangrove. The route is kept clear of obstacles by means of judicious pruning, but this does not seem to detract from the natural beauty of the mangrove tunnels.
