The trip takes you across the open landscape of Billys Lake and down the wooded path of the Suwannee River. A variety of wildlife can be seen, including alligators, aquatic turtles, Anhingas, White Ibis, Great Egrets, Red-bellied Woodpeckers, Carolina Wrens, and Prothonotary Warblers (summer). Most of the people entering the swamp at Stephen C. Foster State Park head east up the lake, so the western side of the lake via the Brown Trail is your best bet for getting away from the crowds. Hazards: Motorboats, airboats, alligators, and biting insects.
