The trail heads south along the eastern edge of the Okefenokee through the sedge glades and cypress domes of Durdin Prairie. The boggy marshes hold a diversity of plants and wildlife. Watch for pitcher plants, Hatpins, Grass Pinks, Carpenter Frogs, Florida Cricket Frogs, Great Egrets, and Tree Swallows (winter). Few people venture beyond the canals, so you can expect to have much of Durdin Prairie to yourself. Hazards: Peat quagmires, lightning, heat exhaustion, motorboats, airboats, and biting insects.
