The first 5.1 miles of the Red Trail are open to day-use canoeing (and motorboating) and provide intimate touring through the extensive shrublands typical of this part of the swamp. The trail begins at Kingfisher Landing and travels northwest through a mix of shrub and small prairie openings to Double Lakes. Although not one of the best wildlife viewing areas, there always seems to be something around to enliven the trip. Hazards: Peat quagmires, lightning, heat exhaustion, motorboats, airboats, and biting insects.
