The paddling in the harbor and along the coast, heading west to Wrights Point or east to Cameron Point beyond Victoria Provincial Park, provides scenic open-water opportunities. The Westmoreland River and the East Branch of the Westmoreland offer protected waters. These two rivers are very tidal, so even though there are deeper channels, paddling is possible only at moderate to higher tides. The launching place for this paddling area is the wide town ramp adjacent to the Victoria Government Wharf. The wharf offers several attractions, including a restaurant, snack bar, and gift shop. You can rent a kayak here from Paul Sheridan of By The Sea Kayaking (902–658–2572 for reservations). The entire area is picturesque, with sailboats moored in the cove and commercial fishing boats docked at the wharf.
