The Tokositna provides a fine one-day paddle for intermediate boaters. Beginning as meltwater at the snouts of Tokositna and Kanikula glaciers, the Tokositna River meanders southeast, then northeast, for about 30 miles to its confluence with the Chulitna River. The upper portion, northwest of Home Lake, is extremely swift and braided. East of Home Lake, the river is still moderately swift but is not difficult to float. The scenery is spectacular, with glaciers and mountains towering above the river valley to the north. The lower river becomes a single channel and the current slows dramatically toward its confluence with the Chulitna.
