This is an excellent trip for intermediate boaters or for families who want to sample a mountain and water environment in western Alaska-especially those who enjoy fishing. Bordered by the Nushagak lowlands on the east and the Wood River Mountains to the west and north, the interconnecting lake system consists of five large lakes and a few small lakes that are connected by short, swift, boulder-strewn streams. The system slowly moves south through the various lakes and their outlet creeks to the mouth of Lake Aleknagik, where the Wood River begins its southerly course to meet the Nushagak River above Dillingham.
